Section VI: Player Resigns & Option Years
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As your players' contracts expire, you will have a chance to resign them. Every offseason, you can resign your expiring contracts. There are limitations: You may only have 5 resigned players on your roster at any given time, and these players are not tradeable for 6 months after being resigned. All Re-Signs must be for at least 2 years (but not greater than 4-yr or 5-yrs w/option), and you may not use more than 2 resigns in any given year. This prevents a team from repeatedly resigning a core group of players. To resign a player, you must make the player an offer in the player resigns forum.
You may offer the player what you want, but there is one thing to remember: Pay cuts ARE allowed. Under the former administration, pay cuts were frowned upon, but that makes little sense in reality. For anybody over the age of 35, a pay raise would require good reason, as would a pay raise for somebody who struggled the previous year.
Players must be FA's, if they have an option year and you decline the option they are not eligible to be re-signed, they go into the FA pool and are free to be bid on.
Only players who have completed their contract can be re-signed. You can not restructure someone’s deal and call it re-signing.
Process
You will submit a contract much like you do trades, you will post the players current salary then the contract you’re offering him.
You get 3 chances to re-sign a guy, after that, he goes into Free Agency.
Example:
Joe Blow $5,000,000
Joe Blow’s Offer 4 Yrs @ 7 Mill Per = 28 Mill
Then the Commishes will vote, you need 3 votes for the contract to be approved just like in trades.
If a player has an option year tacked onto his contract, that option can either be activated or terminated. If any option is rejected, the player is made a free agent.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Releasing Re-Signed Players:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any Release of Re-Signed Player will cost you 50% of contract PLUS you must keep the re-sign tag until it expires therefore freeing yourself of the cap room but not being released from use of the re-sign tag obligation itself.
