Athletics receive: Forrest Whitley (RHP-HOU)
Red Sox receive: Craig Kimbrel (RP-CWS) $9,000,000 (2023)
Reasoning: While it may seem like a pipe dream to envision Whitley breaking through to the majors & fulfilling his massive potential, I still believe in him. He was a top ten prospect only two years ago & was plagued with injuries along with a rough 2020 (like many). Apparently he is healthy & the Astros don't have much of a reason not to give him his shot. As for Kimbrel, I don't value $9m setup men in my bullpen. I don't really value any bullpen arms for $9m in general, especially when I like the rest of my league minimum bullpen so much. In it's purest sense, this is a salary dump for what I believe can still be an impact arm. I would much rather play with that extra $9m in free agency to address depth concerns/resigning Ozzie Albies after this season (he will not be cheap). Personally, aside from the Tommy John injury, I don't feel like Whitley & Gore are all that different & a Kimbrel for Gore trade would be worthwhile 100% of the time. Best of luck to Boston this season & in the future!

Boston accepts, Whitley has/had the hype and Houston seems to still believe it is there.
Plenty of CAP space so why not.

I remember how highly touted Whitley was. A's get a prospect hopeful plus cap-space, and Boston receives a reliever who is reaching the twilight of his career. This works well for the needs of both teams.
