Previous contract: $300,000 (2017)
Rockies offer: $5,500,000 (2019)
I did not find many comparable for a 37 years old pitcher. I found Hiroki Kuroda who decline a player option at $4,500,000 in 2011. He was 36 at the time. When he signed that contract (2008) is stats line was 9W/3.73ERA/116K/1.216WHIP/ Age 33. I think Rich Hill is worth more.
2016 12-5/2.12ERA/129K/0.997WHIP *Age 36 2017 12-8/3.32 ERA/166K/1.091 WHIP*Age 37 162G/AV 9W/3.96ERA/146K/1.251WHIP
If I use the scoring system Astros used for Keuchel, Rich Hill should be worth around $8,000,000. But he's going to be 38 next year. He has a recurring bulb problem. Before 2016, his last good season was in 2012 with the Cubs. I like the comparison with Alex Cobb who signed for 4 years at 5 million last year.
Alex Cobb 2017 12W/3.66ERA/128K/1.136WHIP/Age 29
Cobb was returning from a season on the injury list. I am aware that the contract offer for Cobb was for 4 years while I offer a contract for only 2 years at Rich Hill, but it is very difficult to predict the next two seasons for Hill.

I think it's too low on a two year contract, despite the age. When he's on the field the last 2 years, it's been legitimate elite ace-level production, prorated Chris Sale-esque stats. Granted, it's been injury shortened both times (110.1 and 135.2 IP), but I think both of his past two seasons were worth more than $5.5M given the excellent ratios and very high K rate.
It's a high risk/high reward player, no doubt, but I don't think this contract assumes enough risk given the potential reward. You don't have to go full Keuchel but I think at least $7 is appropriate.

Agreed too low on a short term deal.
