DBacks offer Josh Donaldson 3B Tor - $10,000,000 (2020) (TO2021) previous salary $300,000
From past 3B comparable re-signs:
Seager - $9,500,000 (in 2017) Wright - $8,500,000 (in 2015) Cabrera - $13,000,000 (in 2014) Longoria - $9,000,000 (in 2014) Beltre - $9,000,000 (in 2012)
Donaldson 3B rankings: 2013 - 2nd 2014 - 5th 2015 - 1st (MVP) 2016 - 3rd 2017 - 8th
Nagging injuries first cropped up in 2016; and at age 32, that's the biggest risk as he moves deeper into his 30s. Otherwise, still among the top 3B options and I am offering him the 2nd best contract in the last five year, with only a 28 year old Miggy besting this offer.

Looking over the comps I feel he is closer to Cabrera than the others on the list - When Cabrera resigned he was a top 5 player at his position for 3 years in a row - Donaldson is a top 5 player at his position 3 out of the last 4 years (probably only reason wasn't top 5 this year was injury) - Donaldson is a couple years older than Cabrera when resigned - So I can see a little less but not $10,000,000 I feel it should be in the middle at $11,000,000 to $11,500,000

Deny #2 I agree that Donaldson is one of the top 3rd basemen even at 32 he can hold his own. I think he could be resigned at 11M.

Giving him only 500k more than Seager got last year isn't going to work. He's clearly much better than all the lower comps. Need to be closer to Miggy
