Section VII: Free Agency System
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When free agency opens, every team will have the ability to bid on a player.
The post must contain the complete contract line that you wish to give a player.
Also in the bid, you must calculate the "Points" that you have offered a player. Each component of a contract gives different amounts of points.
The points legend is as follows:
Money (X Millions) = X Points
X Years = X Points (4-yrs max without a option included)
Team Option = -1 Point
What this means is that a $3.3 million offer for 3 years gives 3.3 points for the contract and 3 points for the years. Any contract may not be longer than 4 years without an option, or 5 years with an option.
A proper, complete bid post would look like this:
Normal Terms: 2 Yrs + 2.7 Mil = 4.7 Pts
Team Option: 2 Yrs + 2.7 (contract) - 1 (team option) = 3.7 Points
You may sign a player to a Paid Minors deal. This means that the player will not be placed on your 30 man roster if signed. Once a player is offered a major league deal, he may not be offered a Paid Minors deal again. The maximum annual salary for a Paid Minors deal is $1,000,000. If you are offering a Paid Minors deal, the Bid Points that would normally be calculated are cut in half. This means that a 1 year, $300,000 Paid Minors deal would be .65 points (1 + .3 = 1.3 / 2 = .65)
You may not exceed the salary cap with any pending bid. A bid that would put you over the salary cap will be thrown away as ineligible. Every bid must increase the previous bid by .3 ($300,000) of the previous bid's points.
Bid 1 = 3-Yrs @ 500,000 = 3.5 Pts
Bids 2 must be 3-Yrs @ 800,000 = 3.8 pts OR 1-Yr @ 2.8 = 3.8 pts or so on.
If a bid remains as the top bid for 24 hours, the player will go to the top-bidding team. Any signed player may not be traded until May 1st of the upcoming season but can be placed on waivers. There are no refunds for players who retire or who play overseas. You must be aware of this when signing long-term deals.
Bid Retraction:
You have 15 minutes ONLY to retract a bid. When retracting do not edit your prev bid simply quote your original bid and state "Bid Retracted"
